Neill Blomkamp returns to sci-fi/horror with an alien abduction thriller, THEY FOUND US
Variety reports that Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman and South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp are teaming up for a new sci-fi film titled “They Found Us.” The project will be produced by AGC Studios and is described as a “gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller” that explores themes of survival and humanity in a post-apocalyptic world. Kinnaman will play the lead role in the film, which marks his first collaboration with Blomkamp. “They Found Us” is set to begin production in early 2024.

Deadline reports that actors Omari Hardwick, Lulu Wilson, and Trae Romano have been cast in the upcoming sci-fi film “Xeno,” produced by HartBeat Productions. The movie, directed by John Swab, follows the story of a group of astronauts who awaken from cryogenic sleep to find themselves stranded on an alien planet. Hardwick will play the lead role of Captain McCall, while Wilson and Romano will portray two of the other stranded astronauts. “Xeno” is currently in pre-production and expected to start filming in the fall of 2023.

Stellar cast leads new slasher film, IT’S A WONDERFUL KNIFE
Deadline reports that actors Jane Widdop, Joel McHale, and Justin Long have been cast in a new horror film, yet to be titled. The movie will be directed by Drew Mylrea and written by Dan Curry. The plot follows a group of college friends who reunite for a weekend retreat in the woods, only to find themselves targeted by a supernatural entity. Widdop will play the lead role, with McHale and Long in supporting roles. The project is currently in pre-production and is expected to start filming later this year.

Deadline reports that Dakota Fanning has joined the cast of the upcoming supernatural thriller film “The Watchers,” which is based on the 2012 novel of the same name by A.M. Shine. The movie is directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan and produced by New Line Cinema. The plot follows a genetically enhanced girl who escapes from a top-secret facility and is pursued by a ruthless government agent, with Fanning playing the lead role of the escaped girl. The project is currently in pre-production, with filming expected to begin later this year.
