Back when I was a much younger horror fan – Troma films were the holy grail of indie horror cinema, always bloody, raunchy, disgusting, and yeah – pretty freaking awesome. Their films are legendary and the one that started it all for a large number of us is THE TOXIC AVENGER.
It’s been long overdue – a remake is on its way – featuring an all-star cast and a budget that is larger than the budget of all the Troma films ever made added together. Will it translate into a great film? Only time will tell. What I do have for you today is a synopsis, some key art, and our first look at Peter Dinklage as Toxie. Let’s get to it.
Synopsis:
“Peter Dinklage stars as downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze who, after falling into a vat of toxic waste, becomes none other than The Toxic Avenger. This timely reimagining is up to its eyeballs in environmental themes as Winston goes up against the evil forces of greed and corruption to save his son, his friends, and his community. Even as this story exists on its own terms, the spirit undoubtedly remains connected to the original. Troma fans old and new will be pleased to know that the film has been rated “R” for violence and gore – as per Troma tradition.”
The film is directed by Macon Blair and joining Peter Dinklage in the cast is Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Jacob Tremblay.
As promised – here’s that key art. The pic of Dinklage is at the top of the article – I didn’t tell you it was a good pic – but I’m being told that is Dinklage as Toxie.
