My lifelong love of disaster flicks is well chronicled here at Gruesome Magazine – and in this modern era of filmmaking, Roland Emmerich has certainly played his part in all the destructive fun.
Been a couple of years since he’s blown something up but – he’s back and this time, it’s the moon that has it in for us. An all-star cast, breathtaking FX, and some good old-fashioned conspiracy theory fun seem to be in store. Lionsgate just released the opening scene – the first five minutes – to tantalize our tastebuds for MOONFALL.
I mentioned an all-star cast – check this out – Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Peña, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu, Eme Ikwuakor, Carolina Bartczak, and Donald Sutherland will all be fearing the moon. Synopsis wise – this is how Lionsgate is explaining this one:
In Moonfall, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Academy Award® winner Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson, “Midway”) and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley, “Game of Thrones”) believes her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is. Directed by Roland Emmerich and written by Roland Emmerich, Harald Kloser, and Spenser Cohen.
Yep, I’m all in on this one – Feb. 4th is when the moon makes its move.
