There is a lot to like about this upcoming retelling of Stephen King’s classic vampire tale Salem’s Lot. The original – directed by Tobe Hooper is of course – horror royalty but, let’s be honest, a new take on King’s novel could be a welcome thing – particularly given the folks behind the project and that it will be a feature film this time around as opposed to the two mini-series adaptations we have gotten to date.
A couple of horror heavy hitters are involved behind the scenes – James Wan has a hand in things and this big-screen adaptation has been written and will be directed by Gary Dauberman. A couple of names I’m always excited to see making a horror flick.
With production for the film slated to ramp up in Boston next month – word just came down who will be playing the pivotal character of Ben Mears – a role made famous by David Soul in the TV mini-series originally released back in 1979.
Landing the role is Lewis Pullman – son of Bill Pullman. Lewis has had his hands in a few projects through the last few years – and he’ll be showing up in the highly anticipated Top Gun sequel hitting theaters this fall but Salem’s Lot will be his first high profile starring role. And I like the choice.
Dauberman has stated in previous interviews that he’s looking to bring a true adaptation of King’s book to the screen – which would be amazing to see happen so, anticipation is high. Can’t wait for this one to get underway.
