RENEGADE FILM FEST to screen Blumhouse/Universal hit FREAKY on Saturday, March 5, 2022

The Grue-Crew is excited to return to Film Festivals in the coming months and into 2022. One of our favorite festivals is the RENEGADE FILM FESTIVAL which returns March 3, 2022, through March 5, 2022. This year they are presenting an exciting screening for the hilariously horror-comedy FREAKY. Check out the details below and plan on joining us at the RENEGADE FILM FESTIVAL in 2022. (Also, here is our recent review of FREAKY on the Gruesome Magazine podcast)

The Renegade Film Festival is thrilled to announce a special screening of the Blumhouse/Universal film FREAKY, starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton. The film will screen at the historic Strand Theatre on the Marietta Square, home of the Renegade Film Festival, on Saturday, March 5, 2022. Specific screening time & event details will be determined closer to the event. The film will be immediately followed by a Q&A with members of the cast & crew.

Organizers of the event, Vanessa Ionta Wright and Marissa Pona will close out the fest with the annual awards ceremony immediately following the Freaky Q&A and invite all attendees to join them at the after-party hosted at RED HARE BREWERY.

The Renegade Film Festival Team is thrilled to be screening FREAKY, as it captures the essence of the festival’s focus on celebrating marginalized voices in horror. Director and festival founder Vanessa Ionta Wright explains, “Freaky is a great example of what representation in horror should be. The film boasts an extremely diverse cast and crew,
with LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and women both in front of and behind the camera.” Wright continues, “This film plays with gender dynamics, sexual identity, and the experiences of a diverse group of modern teens in a really exciting and realistic way. Plus it is a horror-comedy that manages to balance laughs with moments of genuine gore and horror, which is not easy to do.”

The Renegade Film Festival runs from Thursday, March 3rd – Saturday, March 5th in Marietta, Georgia. There will be film screenings, a vendor area, and other events throughout the weekend. Submissions are accepted through December 31 exclusively on Film Freeway. Visit the festival website www.renegadefilmfest.com or follow the festival on social media for more updates and news (Facebook @RFF22, Twitter @Renegade_FF & Instagram @Renegadefilmfest).

FREAKY is currently streaming on HBO+ and can also be viewed OnDemand on your favorite streaming platforms.
