Epix has finally gotten around to bringing us their long-anticipated adaptation of Stephen King’s prequel tale of Salem’s Lot – Jerusalem’s Lot, a short story that first appeared in his now-iconic short story collection Night Shift. Production on the series was delayed because of COVID but – they finally managed to get it shot, and now we’ve got a nice little teaser, some pics, and we kind of know when we’ll be able to check it out. First up, the teaser.
Chapelwaite will be a 10 episode series – while no firm date is given, it is mentioned that an August premiere is what is expected. Adrien Brody will star as Captain Charles Boone, whose journal entries and notes served as the catalyst for King’s original short story. Emily Hampshire will be playing Rebecca Morgan – a character added for the series. Here’s the official synopsis that Epix sent along.
“The series is set in the 1850s. It follows Captain Charles Boone (Brody), who relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in the small, seemingly sleepy town of Preacher’s Corners, Maine after his wife dies at sea. However, Charles will soon have to confront the secrets of his family’s sordid history, and fight to end the darkness that has plagued the Boones for generations.”
“Hampshire will play Rebecca Morgan, an ambitious young woman who left Preacher’s Corners to attend Mount Holyoke College and has returned home with an advance to write a story for the new and prestigious Atlantic Magazine. Her writer’s block lifts when Boone arrives in town with his children, and despite her mother’s protests, Rebecca applies to be the governess of the infamous Chapelwaite manor and the Boone family in order to write about them. In doing so, Rebecca will not only craft the next great gothic novel, she’ll unravel a mystery that has plagued her own family for years.”
