In this Stephen King fans humble opinion – The Outsider is one of his best works of recent memory – and the latest in a series of stories to have more of a crime or investigation based storyline – but not skimping on the horror – and features Holly Gibney, one of the most popular and enduring characters of his recent work.
The Outsider will be the second cinematic go around for the character. Justine Lupe portrayed Holly for the AT&T series Mr. Mercedes – and was fantastic. For HBO’s The Outsiders, the character will be brought to life by Cynthia Erivo, and I can’t wait to see where she takes this memorable character.
HBO rolled out a second trailer for the upcoming 10 episode adaptation – and it’s looking pretty damn fine:
From the press release:
“The 10-episode series follows police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn), as he sets out to investigate the mutilated body of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson found in the Georgia woods. The mysterious circumstances surrounding this horrifying crime leads Ralph, still grieving the recent death of his own son, to bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo), whose uncanny abilities he hopes will help explain the unexplainable.
The cast includes Ben Mendelsohn, Cynthia Erivo, Jason Bateman, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vázquez, Jeremy Bobb and Marc Menchaca.”
If you don’t already subscribe to HBO – maybe ask for Santa for a subscription – Jan. 12th at 9 PM is when all this goodness rolls out.
