Huge fan of what André Øvredal has brought to the genre. both Troll Hunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe were pretty damn fantastic and he, of course, has another high profile flick – Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark later this year but this new project – some exciting stuff.
I’m old enough I remember the excitement when the news broke that Stephen King had been writing under s pseudonym. By that time I was a full-fledged collector and when the news dropped – the hunt was on for the original paperbacks of the older works – there were not many out there as the original releases had not really made much noise but one of the first I was able to find was The Long Walk. King, of course, would later release all the titles he wrote as Richard Bachman in an anthology but, those original stand-alone releases – they are one of most sought after King collectables out there. I mention this for one reason only – and allow me to tie this all together.
André Øvredal has been on board to direct the adaptation of the book!
No word on when this one will get rolling but – the sooner the better in my book. The Long Walk is a great story – it goes like this:
100 teenage boys embark on an annual competition known as “The Long Walk.” The rules are simple: maintain a speed above four miles per hour. Receive three warnings in an hour and you’re shot dead. The last one walking gets whatever he wants for the rest of his life. Under these grim circumstances, the boys develop deep friendships despite knowing that each of their friends’ survival is a threat to their own.
I think they’ve got this one in good hands – and of course – we’re watching things closely. Updates soon…..I hope.
