Fresh from the “never say never” file comes the following news: Have you heard? Robert Englund has polished up the razor glove and dusted off the fedora and will once again be taking a turn as the iconic sleep stalker Freddy Krueger for a guest star spot on ABC’s sitcom The Goldbergs. Not a fan of the sitcom – not even sure I have ever seen a single episode but apparently – it’s somewhat popular and they have a habit of featuring 80’s era content. From the network – here’s their explanation of how Freddy winds up playing a part:
“the episode fittingly titled “Nightmare on Elk Avenue” centers on the fears of the show’s teenage protagonist, Adam, after seeing A Nightmare on Elm Street when it premiered way back in 1984. Enter Englund, who will reprise his iconic role for what he calls “a spooky valentine to the fans.”
Englund rather famously proclaimed a few years back – when he donned the make up for one final appearence at a conventon – that he would never partake in the Freddy make up proecess again. Much to our delight – it appears that minds have been changed.
Don’t have a solid air date for the episode as of this writing but – it’s an easy money bet that it will be somewhere close to the Halloween season – duh.
Long story short – Freddy is back!
