Warner Archives Bringing Irwin Allen Classic ‘The Swarm’ To Blu-ray

From the “Holy shit, I’m old” file comes the news that one of my favorite films of my youth is finally going to be hitting Blu-ray. The killer bee classic The Swarm will be making its long-awaited debut on Blu in Sept.

The first film I truly remember being obsessed about was The Poseidon Adventure which was directed by Irwin Allen. After he brought The Towering Inferno to life he was given the moniker “The Master of Disaster” and in 1978 he unleashed The Swarm.

Back in the day – the threat was real, killer bees were coming to attack us all and Mr. Allen seized that opportunity and proceeded to scare the shit out of us all with this nature run amok classic.

So, this release will bring us a 156 minute extended version and some special features that personally, I can’t wait to lay eyes on.

  • Behind The Scenes Documentary
  • Inside the Swarm
  • Theatrical Trailer (HD)

The film stars a who’s who of major Hollywood talent (from the era)   Michael Caine, Katharine Ross, Richard Widmark, Olivia de Havilland, Henry Fonda, Fred MacMurray, Richard Chamberlain, Jose Ferrer, Patty Duke Astin, Lee Grant and Bradford Dillman and oh yeah – roughly 22 million bees.

A true time capsule of its time – The Swarm must be added to your collection!
