Stephen King has brought us many memorable characters through the years but a certain OCD suffering, on the spectrum private investigator is the most recent King creation who has captured “constant readers” hearts and minds. Holly Gibney was originally created as a walk-on character, – as King explains- “I could never let Holly Gibney go from the Mr. Mercedes books. I mean, she was supposed to be a walk-on character and she just kind of stole the book and stole my heart.”
Gibney’s most recent appearance was in The Outsider but King has announced he has brought the character back yet again – and in a very big way.
King was a guest on the Kingcast Podcast – promoting his current release, Gwendy’s Final Task – when he let loose the bombshell “So I just finished a novel that’s called Holly, and it’s all her, man.”
Personally – I have found Holly Gibney to be one of my all-time favorite King character creations and I can’t wait to see what adventures he takes her – and us on.
No release date info on Holly but – if his standard release model holds firm, we are likely looking at a spring 2023 debut. Gwendy’s Final Task just hit shelves, his fall release – Fairy Tale has already been announced for Sept. 6th so, unless the release pattern is altered – Spring 2023 it is.
Holly has been portrayed twice off the written page, by Justine Lupe in three seasons of Mr. Mercedes – and by Cynthia Erivo in the HBO adaptation of The Outsider.
When an official announcement is made – I’ll make sure you’re aware.
