For almost a decade now we’ve been talking about Universal rebooting their classic monsters – there have been starts and stops – more than a few stinkers (Dark Universe, anyone) but that all came to an abrupt end when Leigh Whannell brought his fresh take to The Invisible Man – and suddenly, a reboot of the classic monsters seemed viable once again.
A few weeks back it was announced that Ryan Gosling would be leading the retelling of The Wolfman – which was good news indeed – but tonight we can confirm that Leigh Whannell may return to the universe as he is in talks to helm The Wolfman!
Whannell has built himself a solid resume in the genre and personally – I think this is pretty much the best news we could hope for – let him direct the entire Universal Monster catalog as far as I’m concerned.
Hopefully, we’ll get confirmation soon that he’s signed on the dotted line and production is gearing up but for now – we can rest easy knowing that this new Monster Universe appears to be heading in the right direction.
