Issa Lopez to adapt and direct OUR LADY OF TEARS for Blumhouse

Blumhouse continues to make a significant mark in the future of horror cinema. DEADLINE recently announced that the production company has signed Issa Lopez (director of TIGERS ARE NOT AFRAID) to adapt and direct the upcoming supernatural film, OUR LADY OF TEARS. The film will be based on the Epic magazine article “The Haunting of Girlstown” from Daniel Hernandez.

Blum calls the article “terrifying and heartbreaking” in the DEADLINE piece. He will produce the film along with Joshua Davis and Arthur Spector from Epic. New York magazine featured the Vox article in May 2020. The story recounts events at a Catholic boarding school in Chalco, Mexico called Girlstown where “It was as though the school had fallen under a spell.”

Issa Lopez has handled children in supernatural peril before with her chilling and emotional film TIGERS ARE NOT AFRAID. The Grue-crew reviewed the film on episode 84 of the Gruesome Magazine podcast. It also landed high on Jeff Mohr’s Top 10 of 2019 list of films.
