New Years Day Impesses With Their Latest Release – ‘Unbreakable’

New Year’s Day is a female fronted alternative rock/metal band from Anaheim, California.

These guys have been around since 2005 and  gained traction of a fan-base via social media in 2006 with their self-titled EP.

In 2007 they followed up with their album My Dear, which had more of a pop-punk sound. The metal sound became more distinctive in their later works as the band matured, influenced by Joy Division, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, and others. Femme Fatale Ash Costello’s hauntingly raw and alluring voice takes the lead with the bands heavy tone.

Like any good rock/metal band should, this band is known to give their listeners something to relate to, angst and endearment. With having been familiar to their songs Other Side and Malevolence, New Year’s Day has been one of those bands on my list of bands to check out for a while.

I’m delighted that I finally gave them my full attention!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed what I’ve heard so far off their latest album Unbreakable. So much, I’ve had it on repeat quite a bit actually.

To me personally, I feel a message of self-preservation and perseverance with the macabre lyrics and metal melody. Tracks such as Unbreakable and I Survived are the two tracks that spoke to me on that level.

I’m not going to lie; the songs with more eerie titles caught my attention right away. Skeleton, Poltergeist as well as My Monsters were three of the most melodious metal tracks with so much feeling. The whole entire album delivered passion and pain. It seems to have been a running sensation of New Year’s Day’s music and it’s beautiful.

If it’s anything that we know as music lovers, it genuinely gets us through some tough times. Whether you’re struggling with self-love/care, coping with a break-up or personal loss, we always go straight to our favorite bands or want something fresh.

New Year’s Day is perfect for that.

They’re definitely a band you should blend to your taste; especially if you’re into bands such as Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless and In This Moment.
