Stephen King’s ‘JOYLAND’ Heading To Series At FREEFORM

We have found ourselves at a place where pretty much every word ever written by Stephen King wants to be adapted to film or series by someone.   Case in point – today brought the news that FREEFORM – which if memory serves me correctly used to be ABC Family Channel has optioned his crime/noir thriller JOYLAND to series for the channel.

Kind of make sense as the book is not really horror – although some horrific things do occur – it’s more of a throwback to those old True Stories and True Crime tales that were popular back in the 50’s and 60’s.   But it is a solid, incredibly well written and entertaining journey and actually, FREEFORM is probably the perfect venue to showcase this side of King’s storytelling.

If you’ve never checked the story out – here’s a brief synopsis:

“A college student who takes a summer job at an amusement park in a North Carolina tourist town, confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child and the way both will change his life forever.”

FREEFORM’s Executive VP weighed in on the acquisition:

“We are honored to be working with Stephen King – a master storyteller who understands the importance of culturally embedded tales that resonate with audiences on a deeply personal level. We can’t wait for Joyland to become part of Freeform’s offerings and haunt our viewers as only Stephen can.”

This one is just gearing up for production so, keep an eye, updates are imminent.
