Netflix Spins Off ‘Z Nation’ And Brings Us A ‘Black Summer’

I realize that I am likely in the minority but – I love SYFY Channel’s Z Nation.   Have liked it since season one but did not see this coming in any way, shape of form.   Netflix has ordered a spin off series titled Black Summer.

Jamie King will star – who if you don’t recognize her name, you’ll certainly recognize her face.   I remember her from the My Bloody Valentine remake but she’s been around the genre a lot – and is a damn fine actress.

So – what is this unexpected spin-off all about you ask?

“a mother, torn from her daughter, who embarks upon a harrowing journey, stopping at nothing to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, she must brave a hostile new world and make brutal decisions during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.”

So – the character that King will play was not in Z Nation – so this will be a spin-off set in the fact that it takes place during the same event.   With that being said – Black Summer does have the same creative team behind it so – thinking we can expect an enjoyable 8 episode run.

The Asylum – who produces Z Nation – is also behind Black Summer and while Z Nation is, shall we say, tongue in cheek – it appears that Black Summer may be a little more hard core.

Show creator Karl Schaefer explains:

“Black Summer is before the apocalypse got weird and was just scary.”

Nothing else is known at the moment but as you know – The Asylum tends to pump their stuff out pretty quick so – shouldn’t be long till this one hits the streaming service.   I’m keeping an eye on it and will update you as needed.
