[Podcast] Hounds of Love – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – Episode 217 – Horror News Radio

The Grue-Crew tackle the controversial and challenging Australian horror film Hounds of Love from writer/director Ben Young. For the What Have You Been Watching segment, they review the latest Captain Jack Sparrow adventure Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell Now Tales. Dave dives into the Horror News of the Week with a short film from Neill Blomkamp titled Oats Vol. 1, an X-Men spinoff film that will be an all-out horror film, and a crazy combination of “sports” & “horror” dubbed “sporror” – not kidding, sigh.  Closing out the show Thomas and Santos participate in a battle of wits with this week’s Stump the Saint!

As always, the HNR Grue-Crew would love to hear from you, the listeners, the fans. • Lou Bloom

I love this podcast, but Dave’s arguments didn’t make any sense. This film doesn’t have anything of Rob Zombie in it, and the feeling of “I need to shower” after watching it is exactly what the movie is aiming for.

I definitely agree that the ending felt a bit rushed, but the slow motion didn’t bothered me; the sugestion of violence over graphic scenes makes it even more disturbing and powerful and the performances of the all three main actors are stunning. This is a very well done debut for the writer/director Ben Young.

    • Excellent feedback, Lou. I was not able to see the entire film in time for the podcast; but, from what I saw, I think I can see what Dave was aiming for with the comment in tone, perhaps. It certainly does not apply to dialog and script structure. Dave’s comment probably illustrates how divisive Rob Zombie is more than color Hounds of Love in any way.

I am curious to see what Ben Young does next.

      Thank you,
      Doc
