Romero Packs His Bags And Gets Ready To Travel The ‘Road Of The Dead’

Honestly – it’s damn near impossible to not think of the name George Romero when you hear the zombie genre mentioned – even though the horror icon has not produced any zombie wares in what – damn near a decade?

Well, horror fans – it appears is that is all about to change.  An original screenplay that Romero co-crafted, titled Road Of The Dead is going to be presented for funding at Frontières – which is Fantasia International Film Festival’s film co-production market – that’s happening in July. Hopefully – it finds some backing.

So – what the hell is Road Of The Dead?  We don’t have much info but – here’s what has been revealed – the film will be set”

“on an island where zombie prisoners race cars in a modern-day Coliseum for the entertainment of wealthy humans.”

So, zombies that have been trained to drive around NASCAR style and bring the mayhem and bloodshed along for the ride.

Romero will not be directing this time around – as I stated above Romero has written, well actually co-written, he’s teamed up with long-time collaborator  Matt Birman to bring this story to life – he will also serve as producer.  The directing duties will fall on Matt Birman.

We’ll see how things go for this project at the film market but maybe – just maybe the future holds a new zombie film project for the grandfather of the genre.  Updates as required.
