“The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.” With that simple sentence, author Stephen King started a journey that till this day has yet to conclude. His Dark Tower series of novels – 8 in total – have been a life long journey for the author as well as his fans. As most Stephen King fans know – the world of The Dark Tower has also touched many of his other works, an interlaced weaving of places and characters that are a major attraction for a large portion of his ‘constant readers’.
So, you can imagine the importance of getting the film version of this much-beloved tapestry done correctly was a concern for a large portion of the fanbase. The on again, off again rumors of production – actors coming and going – directors doing the same, this all lead to concern for many that maybe no one could get King’s vision right.
I’m here to tell you today – if this trailer holds true to the finished film, we are in for a treat larger than we could have ever hoped.
This morning, Sony Pictures dropped the first trailer for The Dark Tower and – it’s a thing of beauty.
Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, Fran Kranz, Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick, and Abbey Lee bring King’s characters to life. Nikolaj Arcel directs.
The official synopsis from Sony:
“There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.”
The Dark Tower opens everywhere on August 4th!
