Here’s a bit of surprising news on this proposed project. The notion of an Escape From New York retooling has been bouncing around for a while now. A ton of Carpenter’s properties have already undergone that procedure – with varying degrees of success or failure – depending on where you stand on things. One that actually could be an interesting endeavor would be a retelling of the epic Snake Plissken saga and so much depends on who would play Snake and who would direct. It appears as if we have an answer to one of those questions.
Deadline is reporting that Robert Rodriguez is on board to direct.
20th Century Fox has owned the rights to the remake since 2015 and apparently – they are ready to give this one a go. The script is done – Neil Cross handled those duties – The Picture Company is in line to produce. Looks like all we need now is to start casting this sucker up.
John Carpenter is executive producing. Mike Ireland is keeping an eye on things for the studio.
Here’s the only part of this happening that has me a little concerned. They are also reporting that “The hope is to reinvent the property with an eye toward launching a Planet Of The Apes-like franchise.”
Yeah – I groaned a little as well.
Got our finger on the pulse of this one – watch for updates.
