[Trailer] “The Belko Experiment” (2017): James Gunn Pens a Battle Royale for the Trump Era

flashforwardfridayforecast

Many casual horror fans or super hero fans may not realize that director James Gunn, the genius behind Guardians of the Galaxy, is also an accomplished horror writer and director. He is responsible for screenplays for the Dawn of the Dead (2004) remake and the Scooby-Doo films (Scooby-Doo in 2002 and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed in 2004). His film Slither (2006) is a gruesome gore-fest that is delicious in its bloodshed and monster mayhem. In 2017, his screen play for THE BELKO EXPERIMENT hits theaters on March 17. It is time to rejoice.

The film is directed by Greg McLean, best known for the Wolf Creek films but also responsible for The Darkness (2016). The cast includes John Gallagher. Jr., Adrian Arjona, Tony Goldwyn, John C. McGinley, Mikaela Hoover, Abraham Benrubi, David Dastmalchian, and Owain Yeoman. It also feature some James Gunn favorites: Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker. The film is brought to us by Blumhouse and Orion Pictures.

The story behind  THE BELKO EXPERIMENT centers around a building full of employees suddenly trapped in lock down unable to leave. Soon after, explosive devices implanted in their skulls begin to go off. This is just a warning as the games begin. They are directed to accomplish gruesome tasks or random people will die. But each task will ensure someone dies. The film feels reminiscent of the classic Battle Royale films but shifting its focus to the corporate world instead of students.

The grue-crew are increasingly excited about catching the latest genre offering from James Gunn and director Greg McLean. It seems we know what we are doing come March 17, 2017.
