Tuesday, October 20th saw the world premiere of directors Kevin and Michael Goetz’ long awaited remake of the French “New Wave Of Horror” classic, Martyrs! The original 2008 release, directed by Pascal Laugier, is still noted for its absolute and unforgiving brutality. Upon its original release, the film turned both heads and stomachs as it stunned audiences worldwide. Now after being nothing more than a rumor for a long time, the Brothers Goetz have finally unleashed their version of Martyrs to an unsuspecting public at its Screamfest premiere last night in Hollywood. Although there is no set release date yet, Anchor Bay Entertainment will be distributing Martyrs to theaters nationwide in the first quarter of 2016, so prepare yourselves for a new version of what some have called “One Of The Most Ferocious Horror Films Ever Made” [Fearnet.com].
SYNOPSIS: MARTYRS is a remake of a French film, which Anchor Bay will be distributing during the 1st quarter of 2016. Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare — if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them…
In attendance were Troian Bellisario (TV’s “Pretty Little Liars”), Bailey Noble (TV’s “True Blood”) and directors Kevin and Michael Goetz (Scenic Route).
