Review: The Gift  (2015)

THE GIFT is a pleasant Summer surprise, a nifty little thriller from writer/director/co-star Joel Edgerton that challenges Se7en for the line “What’s in the box?” Husband and wife Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall welcome awkward friend Edgerton into their home…and their lives. Once they decide, after a strange encounter in Edgerton’s home, to part ways – an action that exposes his creepy disposition as something far more frightening. The Grue-crew champion the film and the acting chomps of Bateman, Hall and Edgerton.

What Have You Been Watching: Fantastic Four  (2015)

While the Marvel cinematic universe has revolutionized the superhero genre, FOX continues to struggle to fully realize the FANTASTIC FOUR franchise. Director Josh Trank (Chronicle) steps in to harbinger the 2015 version featuring  Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell as Reed Richards, Johnny Storm, Sue Storm and Ben Grimm as they venture into another dimension to gain powers beyond their imagination. Somewhere along the line, however, everything falls apart resulting in one of the worst films of 2015, superheroes or otherwise. It is a real stinker!
